On Saturday 27 August 2011 blind athlete and BSG brand ambassador Hein Wagner, and his racing partner Gerrie Olivier competed in the gruelling Ironman 70.3 (also known as the half Ironman) held in Santa Catarina, Brazil. The race consisted of a “Y” shaped swim, a three-lap bike race followed by a two-lap run through the beautiful town of Penha and the surrounding areas.

Hein Wagner and his partner, Gerrie Olivier, are set to compete in the world’s toughest mountain bike stage race, the Absa Cape Epic from 27 March to 3 April. The Epic, as it is more commonly known, will see Hein and Gerrie join 1198 other mountain bikers, cover roughly 707 kilometres and ascend 14550 metres, all in eight days. The route starts at the Chrysalis Academy in Cape Town and ends at Lourensford Wine Estate.
