BSG Multisport

LEAP Science and Maths School aims to transform educationally disadvantaged communities in South Africa through mathematics and science focused education initiatives. The LEAP learning model is designed to support children from South Africa's township communities to be become South Africa's leaders of the future.

BSG believes that the sport of triathlon can be used to bridge the gap between the diverse social and economic classes within South Africa. BSG has chosen the sport of triathlon as a platform to enhance its education-based social responsibility programme by offering a sport that can be entered into relatively easily. Healthy minds need healthy bodies and, as an individual can enter the sport in a team format (one only needs to know how to swim or cycle or run to start with), there is a great opportunity for many school children to enter the sport.

BSG has assisted LEAP Maths and Science schools in Cape Town and Johannesburg with their education programmes over the past years. BSG also hosts triathlon clinics which identify talented scholars and then assist the sport coaches in training them to compete in the BSG Energade Triathlon Series. These clinics are run by Chris Felgate, Olympic athlete supported by other BSG Elite Triathlon Team members.

Based on an encouraging start in 2010, where triathletes taking part in the BSG Energade Triseries made donations to LEAP through the entry process, we are seeking to ramp up the amount of funds collected for LEAP dramatically. This year we are challenging all participants in the 2011 Triseries to use their individual networks to help raise and pledge funds for the LEAP schools. This is a critical cause, so please support our country and help ensure that we protect the mantra that it is 'every child's birthright to have an education'.
