Race Rules for the 2011 Season
The BSG Energade Triathlon Series events are run by Business Systems Group in accordance with the rules set out below.
1. Entry Management
1.1 There are NO facilities for on the day entries and the event organisers accept no responsibility whatsover for any person that arrives on the day of an event without a pre-entry. Only online entries made via the BSG Multisport web site will be accepted. This applies to the Main Series, Kids Series, and Elite Athletes.
1.2 Once entered and payment is received for any of the events, NO REFUNDS OR SUBSTITUTIONS will be permitted.
1.3 We have made it possible to change an entry from one event to another, but ONLY within YOUR CATEGORY. This is also subject to the following: 1) Entries have NOT already closed (Note: entries officially close at midnight on the Wednesday before a Sunday event) for the event being requested to be changed from, and 2) There are entries still available for your age category for the event being requested to be changed to.
2. Kit
To qualify for prize money and series points all athletes must adhere to the following ITU rules regarding sponsor logos and placements. Please click on the link below: download PDF
3. Ambush Marketing
3.1. It is our aim to have a "clean" finish area (this will be the area 75m after the finish line) and only designated officials will be allowed in this area. No team managers will be allowed in the finish area.
3.2. Ambush marketing will not be tolerated at the event. Where the benefits of participation (e.g. participation in the Triseries Challenge) include the use of any promotional materials in relation to the event, the corporate/institution shall only be permitted to utilise the site allocated to them by BSG. The size of the demarcated site will differ from venue to venue according to the space available. The location of the corporate/institution site will be communicated at registration as well as being clearly marked at each event. As the number of sites is limited, they will be allocated on a first come first serve basis on the day, with sites reserved for corporate/institutions who formally request this facility prior to race day, from the event organisers.
3.3. The corporate/institution site will be located as close to the finish area as possible, but in a manner that does not detract from paying sponsors. This area will be designated for the exclusive benefit of (in the following order of preference), Elite teams, corporate/institutions taking part in the Triseries Challenge, Official sports and multisport clubs, as well as corporate/institutions who wish to use the event for team building purposes.
3.4. Each corporate/institution as defined in 2.3 above, will be allowed to erect ONE branded GAZEBO only on their designated site. No other branding will be allowed and these requirements will be strictly enforced by the event organisers and we trust that all corporate/institutions will understand and willingly abide by these requirements.
4. TSA (Triathlon South Africa) Registered Athletes
A separate area in transition will be NOT be available for all TSA registered athletes in possession of a TSA registration card for 2011/12. TSA athletes will also not have a separate swim wave but will start at the front of their group, unless participating in the Elite category which will have a separate start.
4.1. To qualify an athlete must:
4.1.1. Prior to the entry for the event, be registered with TSA, through his/her province, and be in possession of a TSA 2011/2012 TSA registration card (driver's license format).
4.1.2. Pre-enter online for the event.
4.2. No TSA registration facilities will be available on race day

THESE ARE COMPULSORY AND NO OFFICIAL SWIM CAP, NO RACE. No other swim caps will be permitted. This is to allow the lifesavers and officials to clearly identify the athletes in the water as well as to support the official sponsors of the event. In the Elite category the Men will be given a different coloured swim cap to the Women, so that easy identification of athletes is possible, to aid the TV production crew.
5.2. The use of WETSUITS will be determined on the day and announced 1 hour before the start of the event. Water temperature above 22 degrees: NO wetsuit is permitted. However, below 14 degrees a wetsuit will be compulsory.
5.3. NO pushing, shoving, pulling or blocking is permitted during the swim.
5.4. Participants MUST SWIM AROUND THE BUOYS and not take short cuts. Failure to obey this rule will result in disqualification.
6. Compulsory Race Numbers
6.1. All participants must be clearly body-marked by race organisers, which will take place at registration. Athletes will not be allowed into the transition area without their race number clearly visible. At events where multiple start waves may be required for safety reasons, different colour body marking will be used, to distinguish the athletes start wave. It is essential for an athlete to start in their designated start wave. Athletes not abiding to this requirement will be disqualified automatically, as this would place the safety of the event in jeopardy.
6.2. For the Elite category, body marking for athletes will be based on their series ranking at the time of each event. Men and Women will be body marked with different colours to aid athlete identification for commentary and TV production purposes.
7. Bicycles and Transition
7.1. NO HELMET, NO RIDE. Helmets must be produced for inspection at bike check in. Only approved hard-shell helmets will be permitted.
7.2. THIS IS A DRAFT LEGAL RACE. Women can only draft off women and men can only draft off men. This is particularly important for the Elite category and drafting will be carefully monitored - athletes drafting off the opposite sex will be disqualified.
7.3. HANDLEBARS. Only traditional drop handlebars are permitted. Clip-ons will be permitted provided they do not extend more than 15cm beyond the front wheel axle, and are not longer than the brake levers' foremost line. Straight forward clip-ons must be bridged and must not carry forward-facing brake levers. No forward facing bar or gear shifters are allowed on the end of the clip-ons. All bar ends must be properly plugged.
7.4. ILLEGAL EQUIPMENT. Glass containers, headphones and headsets are not permitted.
7.5. Only wheels of spoke construction will be permitted. NO DISC WHEELS OR WHEEL COVERS WILL BE PERMITTED.
7.6. Helmets must be clipped on tightly and correctly before taking bike from rack. Helmets must be worn during the full duration of the cycle leg and only be removed after racking the bike. DO NOT un-clip or remove your helmet on re-entry into the transition area before your bike is racked. You will be stopped to re-clip your helmet. Make sure that your helmet is securely fitted. As a self-test, push your helmet back over your head. If it moves beyond your forehead then the helmet straps must be tightened. You will be stopped, if in the referee's opinion, your helmet is not secure enough. (10 second time penalty will be applicable once the helmet is re-secured)
7.7. There will be a designated bike rack section for Elite athletes in the transition area.
7.8. No cycling is permitted in the transition area.

8.1. An UPPER BODY GARMENT MUST BE WORN during the cycle leg of the event. No nudity is permitted. (One-piece suits must be zipped and both "straps" of the top or vest must remain on the shoulders)
